Us heu de deixar perdre pel Pla de Mallorca i les seves carreteretes per topar-vos amb un turonet que domina la zona compresa entre Sant Joan, Pina i Porreres, molt a prop de la carretera que comunica Ciutat de Mallorca amb Manacor. Aquest turó està ocupat per un petit nucli de població, Montuïri. D’ell podem destacar dos molinars, situats a cada extrem del lloc. Un d’ells, el que es troba a la sortida del poble -direcció Sant Joan- és originari del segle XVIII. Es tracta del Molí des Fraret, un encisador molí fariner, que no té res a envejar als quixotescos molins de la manxa i que acull el Museu Arqueològic de Son Fornés.

En les seves sales plenes d’Història farem un viatge en el temps que ens ajudarà a comprendre com una petita comunitat de pastors i pagesos es va instal·lar al cor de Mallorca, ara fa 3.000 anys, i aixecà els majestuosos talaiots, grans torres de pedra construïdes col·lectivament en favor del bé comú per compartir i distribuir les riqueses de la terra.

A mesura que aneu avançant per les sales expositives us anireu obrint a la mediterrània de la mà dels foners balears. Aquests guerrers invencibles van transformar les societats balears de l’Edat Antiga, primer des de les files dels cartaginesos, i després des de l’exèrcit romà, integrant-les de ple dret en les cultures hegemòniques del Mediterrani.

Al museu podreu trobar un gran equip de recerca, que ha fet l’esforç de comunicar, amb un discurs planer, les troballes de 40 anys de feina. Els podeu visitar de dilluns a divendres en diversos horaris, que s’adapten a les diferents estacions de l’any.

You must get lost in the centre of Mallorca and its roads to bump into a small hill that leads the zone between Sant Joan, Pina and Porreres, very close to the road that links Ciutat de Mallorca and Manacor. We can highlight two mills, each one in one edge of the place. One of them, the one that is just at the exit of the village – towards Sant Joan – was made in the XVIII century. We are talking about Es molí des Fraret (something like the little priest’s mill), charming mill that nothing has to envy to the Quijote’s mills in la Mancha and that holds the archaeological museum of Son Fornés.

In the rooms packed with history, we will travel through time to understand how a small community of shepherds and farmers settled in the heart of Mallorca, now 3000 years ago, and built the majestic talaiots, big stone towers collectively built for the common wealth and the sharing and distribution of the treasures of the land.

As you go through the exposition rooms, you will open to the Mediterranean by the Balearic foners. This unbeatable warriors transformed the Balearic societies of the Antique Age – first from the Carthaginian rows and then from the Roman army, integrating them into the hegemonic cultures of the Mediterranean.

In the museum you can find a great research team that has made the effort of communicating, with a plain language, the findings of 40 years of work. You can visit them from Monday to Friday during different times that adapt to the different seasons.
