Cal Dimoni

ca'l dimoniBalearic fast food. It’s good, nice – at least curious – and cheap enough. Cal Dimoni is non-stop hot burning coal, from 12 to 24h, on which pork, lamb, sobrassada, botifarrons (typical Majorcan sausage) and Majorcan bread – for making typical pa amb oli toast, or as a side dish– is roasted. The specialties of the house which you ought to try are Majorcan soups – although it’s called soup don’t expect a spoon dish — , frit or escargot.

Cal Dimoni is a success story. It was just a roadhouse – Van Bar, a well-known place in Algaida – which transformed itself with the start of tourism, making the most out of the fact that the highway where coaches full of tourists on their way to the caves of Manacor, passed right in front of it. They put a statue of a demon right outside the door and started offering the dance of the coissers, a typical dance from the town which had fallen into disuse. Not only the restaurant started getting clients, but coisser came back to the town and today they represent one of their symbols of identity. Going to Cal Dimoni is always a ball.

El fast food balear. Bo, bonic –curiós, vaja- i prou barat.

Anar a Cal Dimoni sempre fa festa.
